U.S. Universities: Make Higher Education Affordable
Let’s make higher education affordable!
I graduated from college with over $45,000 in debt. And I’m not alone. Students who graduated in 2010 had an average of $25,250 in student loan debt. Total student loan debt in the U.S. recently passed $1 trillion. And these numbers are expected to rise, unless something changes.
American students are facing a college affordability crisis. At the same time debt is ballooning, wages and employment rates are staying static for young college graduates, meaning dreams of paying off loans are receding. I know mine are.
Who can change this? According to a Federal Commission on the affordability of higher education, many college and universities have not seriously looked into reducing their costs. The most expensive colleges in the country now cost almost $60,000 per year. State schools can also be prohibitively expensive for those who want to avoid taking on tens of thousands of dollars in debt. We can’t let this continue.
